These frogs secrete a strong poison from their skin. They are mainly found in the Dendrobatidae family, but are also found in other families. The Dendrobatidae family is called arrow-poison frogs because Indians collect the poison from their skin to use in poison arrows. There are 159 species of these frogs, which are found in tropical regions from Central America to South America (illustration). They are small, measuring 2.5 to 4 cm in length, and all have beautiful colors and markings. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
