Rock bed - Gansho (English spelling) sheet

A plate-like igneous rock that intrudes parallel or nearly parallel to the bedding planes or foliation of the surrounding strata or metamorphic rocks. Also called a sheet. Generally used for plate-like igneous rocks that incline at up to 45 degrees, while steeper or vertical inclinations are distinguished as dikes. A bedrock is sometimes used synonymously with a nearly horizontal sill, and sometimes used to refer to rocks that intersect obliquely with the bedding planes or foliation of the surrounding sedimentary rocks, and is used in a broader sense than a sill.

板状の火成岩体で、その周囲にある地層の層理面や変成岩の面構造に平行またはほぼ平行に貫入しているもの。シートともいう。一般的に45度程度まで傾斜した板状火成岩体に用いられ、急傾斜であったり垂直に傾いたものは岩脈dikeとして区別される。岩床は、ほぼ水平なシルsillと同義に使われることもあれば、周囲の堆積(たいせき)岩の層理面や面構造と斜交しているものにも使われることがあり、シルよりも広い意味で用いられている。
