Potash ball - Kalikyu

A container used to quantitatively absorb carbon dioxide in organic elemental analysis. Carbon dioxide produced by burning organic compounds is quantitatively absorbed in a potassium hydroxide sphere containing a 30-50% potassium hydroxide solution. A chemical balance is used to measure the weight of carbon dioxide in the sphere and determine the carbon content. Various shapes have been devised, the most common being the Winkler potassium hydroxide sphere, the Geissler potassium hydroxide sphere, the Liebig potassium hydroxide sphere, and the Wanderburg potassium hydroxide sphere.

有機元素分析で二酸化炭素を定量的に吸収させるために用いられる容器．有機化合物を燃焼して生成した二酸化炭素は，30～50％ 水酸化カリウム溶液を入れたカリ球で定量的に吸収させる．このカリ球は化学はかりを用いて，二酸化炭素重量を測定して炭素含有率を求める．種々の形状のものが考案されており，代表的なものにウィンクラーカリ球，ガイスラーカリ球，リービッヒカリ球，ワンデルブルクカリ球がある．
