Karikawa

The center of Shonai Town, Higashitagawa County, in the northwest of Yamagata Prefecture. Formerly Karikawa Town. A key transportation hub connecting Shonai and the inland since ancient times. The grave of Toshinaga Kitatate Daigaku, who excavated the Kitatate Ozeki Dam in the early modern period (prefectural historic site), is located here. There is also a history and folklore museum in the former Tachikawa Town Hall building. JR Rikuu West Line Karikawa Station is located here, and National Routes 47 and 345 intersect here.

山形県北西部、東田川郡庄内町(しょうないまち)の中心地。旧狩川町。古くから庄内と内陸を結ぶ交通の要地。近世初頭に北楯大堰(きただておおぜき)を開削した北楯大学利長(としなが)の墓（県史跡）がある。また、旧立川町庁舎の建物を利用した歴史民俗資料館がある。JR陸羽(りくう)西線狩川駅があり、国道47号と345号が交差する。
