West Temple of Kashoji Temple

…In 851 (Jinju 1), Prince Korehito (later Emperor Seiwa) and his maternal grandfather Fujiwara no Yoshifusa built this temple in cooperation with Kukai's disciple Shinga for the protection of the prince. It was originally called Kasho-ji Saiin, but in 862 (Jogan 4) it was renamed Jokan-ji and became independent from Kasho-ji. It had a vast collection of buildings and temples, and boasted a strength that surpassed that of the main temple, Kasho-ji, but it fell into disuse with the decline of the regent family. …
