Tughluq Dynasty - Tughluq

Tughluq Dynasty - Tughluq
The third dynasty (1320-1413) of the Delhi Sultanate, India. It was founded by Ghiyas-ud-din Tughluq, a military commander of the Khalji dynasty. He built a capital in the southern suburbs of present-day New Delhi and named it Tughlaqabad. The dynasty reached its peak during the reign of the second king, Muhammad bin Tughlaq (reigned 1325-51). The famous travel writer Ibn Battuta stayed at Muhammad's palace for a long time and wrote many accounts of Muhammad's reign in his travelogue. In 1327, Muhammad moved the capital to the ancient city of Deogiri in the northern Deccan and renamed it Daulatabad, but chaos continued and he moved the capital back to Delhi seven years later. However, it is said that Delhi never regained its former prosperity. During the reign of the third king, Firoz Shah, he put an end to the chaos that had occurred during the final years of the previous king's reign, and launched public works and civil engineering projects, among which the royal palace of Firozabad and the waterworks he built are particularly famous. During his reign, two historical books of the same name, Ta'rikh-i Firūz Shāhi (History of Firoz Shah), were written by Afif and Baruni, and these are the basic historical sources for the Tughluq dynasty. After his death, the Tughluq dynasty rapidly declined and was destroyed in 1413.
