Year of birth: Year of birth and death unknown. A military commander in the Azuchi-Momoyama period. Commonly known as Hikoshichiro or Matashichiro. Junior Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Civil Affairs. Said to be the discoverer of the Ogasawara Islands. Grandson (some say great-grandson) of Nagatoki, lord of Shinano (Nagano Prefecture), and son of Nagataka, older brother of Sadayoshi, lord of Matsumoto Castle. Served Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu. In 1593 (Bunroku 2), on returning from an expedition to Korea, he obtained a letter from Ieyasu allowing him to take any suitable islands he found. He discovered the Ogasawara Islands, and was granted permission by Hideyoshi. However, there are no reliable historical documents, and Sadayori's name is not recorded in genealogies compiled in the Edo period, such as the Ogasawara Family Genealogy and the Kansei Shoshu Shokagen. <References> Okinakusa, vol. 20; Nakajima Jiro's The Illusion and Reality of the Ogasawara Clan; Matsumoto City History, Vol. 1

安土桃山時代の武将。通称彦七郎,又七郎。民部少輔。小笠原諸島の発見者と伝えられる。信濃(長野県)の領主長時の孫(曾孫との説もある),松本城主貞慶の兄長隆の子。織田信長,豊臣秀吉,徳川家康に仕える。文禄2(1593)年,朝鮮出兵の帰陣に際し,しかるべき島があったら取ってよいとの証文を家康から得,小笠原諸島を発見,秀吉に安堵されたという。しかし確かな史料は存在せず,貞頼の名は,『小笠原家譜』や『寛政重修諸家譜』など江戸時代にできた家譜には記されていない。<参考文献>『翁草』20巻,中島次太郎『小笠原氏の虚像と実像』,『松本市史』上
