cor anglais (English spelling)

…A transposing instrument in the key of F, a fifth lower than the oboe. It is also called the cor anglais. The name is said to derive from its resemblance to the hunting horn used in England in the mid-18th century, but the exact origin of the word is unknown, as some say that the French word anglais is a corrupted version of the words anglaé (curved) or angulier (angular).
