A collection of Chinese poetry and prose by Sugawara no Michizane. Twelve volumes. He compiled it himself in August 900 (Shotai 3) and dedicated it to Emperor Daigo. The circumstances of its creation are detailed in Michizane's "Letter to Dedicate a Family Collection." The extant version retains almost the original form from the time of its creation. Volumes 1 to 6 are poetry, and volumes 7 to 12 are prose, containing 468 poems and 159 prose pieces in a variety of styles, including fu, prefaces, imperial edicts, petitions, and supplications. It is the largest collection of poetry and prose by a Chinese poet of the Heian period. It contains works from his first poem at the age of 11 to the spring of the year of its creation, spanning 45 years, but the poems are arranged chronologically, allowing one to read the trajectory of the poet's mind over the course of more than 30 years. "Four days away from home, I have tormented spring. Why does the plum and willow blossoms feel fresh wherever I touch them? Because they are so light, I ask in the reports of passing travelers. The governor of Sanshu was originally a poet." (Inscribed on the wall of the station building).
