House of God

…In the New Testament, the church is expressed in a wide variety of images. Some of the more well-known ones are the flock of sheep led by Christ the Shepherd, the vine branches with Christ as the trunk, the house of God with Christ as the cornerstone, the new city of Jerusalem, the bride of Christ, the “new people of God on a journey” like the Israelites who once traveled through the wilderness led by Moses, and the “body of Christ” with Christ on its head. The image of the church that emerges through these diverse images is a combination of the community of believers that has taken various concrete forms throughout history and the “mystery” or spiritual reality that will only be revealed in its entirety at the end of the world. …
