Platanaceae

...The Japanese name is said to have come from the fact that the shape of the aggregate fruits resembles the tassels on the robes worn by mountain ascetics. The Platanaceae family consists of only one genus, with six to eight species distributed in isolation from southeastern Europe to India, the Indochina Peninsula, and North America to Mexico. In addition to the Platanus, there are two other species cultivated in Japan.
