Han Qi

Japanese: 韓琦 - かんき
Han Qi

A politician from the Northern Song Dynasty in China. Born in Anyang (Henan Province). Passed the Jinshi examination at a young age. He established discipline in the political world, played an active role in impeaching evil ministers, and, as a peace envoy, rescued 1.9 million starving people in Sichuan. He repelled an invasion by Li Yuanhao of the Western Xia Dynasty, and at the age of 30, he was already renowned for his literary and military skills. He held various local government positions, including governor of Yangzhou, of his own accord, but in 1056 he became Sanshishi and Privy Councilor, and in 1058 he became Prime Minister, participating in national politics for about 10 years. During that time, he also supervised the compilation of national history. After the accession of the 6th emperor, Emperor Shenzong (reigned 1067-85), he was impeached by Wang Tao and became a local official again. He opposed the Qingmiao Law and the territorial cession demanded by the Khitan, and came into direct conflict with Wang Anshi. He resigned from his post and died. He was known as a wise minister along with Fuhitsu. His book is "Anyangshu."
