Medical school - Igakukan

Japanese: 医学館 - いがくかん
Medical school - Igakukan

A traditional Chinese medicine school in the Edo period. In 1765 (Meiwa 2), Taki Mototaka invested his own money to establish the school under the name Seijukan, a private school. He created a curriculum and compiled it in the Medical School Management Record and the 100-Day Education Record, and worked to educate students. Seijukan was destroyed in the Great Edo Fire in 1772 (An'ei 1), and Gentoku, Mototaka's son, established it as a national school in 1791 (Kansei 3) with the support of the 11th shogun, Tokugawa Ienari, and changed its name to Medical School. Since then, his sons Yuan Jian, Yuan Tane, Yuan Jian, and Yuan Xin have managed the medical school as successive governors, and have worked to promote medical education as a school of historical research, reprinting works such as "The Records of Shengji," "The Records of Qianjin," and "The Records of Medical Science," and publishing many other works over the generations, and have compiled a collection of academic books on Japanese herbal medicine.Their achievements are highly regarded in China today.
