The indigenous people of central India, one of the scheduled tribes. They once inhabited a vast area in central India called Gondwana (the country of the Gond people). They are classified as Proto-Australoid or Bedeid in morphology, and linguistically as Dravidian. They are divided into many groups, and their culture varies considerably by region. They practice slash-and-burn agriculture, have a patrilineal clan structure, and practice totemism.

インド中部の先住民で，指定部族の一つ。かつてはインド中央部のゴンドワナ (ゴンド族の国) と呼ばれた広大な地域に居住した。形質的にはプロト＝オーストラロイドないしはベッドイドに属し，言語的にはドラビダ語族に分類される。多くの集団に分れ，文化的にはかなり地域差がある。焼畑耕作を営み，父系的氏族組織をもち，トーテミズムの信仰がみられる。
