Gond tribe - Gond (English spelling)
The indigenous people of central India, one of the scheduled tribes. They once inhabited a vast area in central India called Gondwana (the country of the Gond people). They are classified as Proto-Australoid or Bedeid in morphology, and linguistically as Dravidian. They are divided into many groups, and their culture varies considerably by region. They practice slash-and-burn agriculture, have a patrilineal clan structure, and practice totemism.
