Yasunobu Kano
Year of death: 4th September 1685 (1st October 1685)
Year of birth: December 1, 1614 (January 10, 1614)
A painter of the early Edo period. Commonly known as Ukyoshin, and pen name Eishin. Born in Kyoto as the third son of Kano Takanobu, he was adopted to succeed the head of the family after the early death of the head of the family, Sadanobu. During the Kan'ei era (1624-1644), he was bestowed with a mansion in Nakabashi, Edo, and became an official painter for the shogunate, founding the Nakabashi Kano family. He participated in the production of sliding door paintings for Edo Castle and the Imperial Palace. In 1662 (Kanbun 2), he became a Hokan. He followed the painting style of his older brother Tan'yu, but his skill was somewhat inferior. In his book "Gado Yoketsu" (1680), he showed the Kano family's ideas on painting, such as encouraging "academic painting," and influenced later generations. His representative work is the sliding screen painting at Gyokurin-in Temple, Daitokuji. "Tojo Tomecho" (Tokyo University of the Arts collection) is an appraisal record. <References> Tajima Shiichi (ed.), "Toyo Bijutsu Taikan," vol. 5
