Coastal Zone (Coast)

...The coast can refer either to the land (broad definition) on the ocean side of the coastline (broad definition), or to the land affected by the action of the sea, such as the beach and the sea cliffs, sand dunes, lagoons, and marshes behind it. The ocean side of the shoreline is divided into the outer beach (or coastal zone) from the shoreline to the surf zone, and the offshore beach offshore from the surf zone, with the boundary being the zone where waves approaching the land break (surf zone).
