[The Legend of the Sunken Bell]
There are legends all over Japan that tell of bells submerged at the bottom of rivers, lakes, marshes, and oceans. These are known as sunken bell legends or bell-ga-fuchi legends, and the places where they are submerged are called Kanegafuchi, Tsuriganefuchi, Kanesutefuchi, Kanagurafuchi, Kanegasaki, etc. Their origins can be broadly divided into three categories.
