Kanya Kumari - Kanya Kumari

...In ancient times, it was recorded as Komaria Akron on Ptolemy's map, and Marco Polo also called it Comari. After independence, it was called Kanyā Kumari after the temple dedicated to the virgin goddess Kumari built at the tip of the cape. The southern extension of the Western Ghats is the South Sahiyādori mountain range, but Cape Comorin is located in the part of that massif that has eroded to form a broad plateau 20 to 50 meters above sea level.
