A perennial plant of the Asteraceae family that grows under the coniferous forests of Honshu and Shikoku north of Kinki. The stem is 0.6-1m tall. The leaves are about three in number, resembling the shell of a crab, with a glossy upper surface and irregular sawtooth edges. The flower heads are small, white, and consist of 3-5 tubular flowers that grow in a thin cone shape at the end of the stem in August-September. The closely related Momijigasa has palmate leaves similar to maples, and is found from Hokkaido to Kyushu. Young shoots are called Shidoke or Shitogi and are used as wild vegetables. → Related items Shitogi | Shidoke Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
