Kan'ei Shokakeizuden - Genealogy of Various Families in the Kan'ei Period

This is a collection of genealogies of feudal lords and hatamoto (military vassals) compiled by the Edo Shogunate during the Kan'ei era (1624-1644). Work began in 1641 (Kan'ei 18) and was completed in 1643. Led by Hayashi Razan, several dozen scholars and monks were involved in the compilation. Using family genealogies submitted by various families as reference material, the compilation included 186 volumes each written in kana and mana. It was Japan's first compilation of samurai genealogies, and the first result of a large-scale compilation project by the Edo Shogunate. The copies presented to the Shogunate are preserved in the National Archives of Japan and at Nikko Toshogu Shrine.

江戸幕府が寛永年間（1624～44）に編集した大名、旗本の系図集。1641年（寛永18）に着手し43年に完成した。林羅山(はやしらざん)を中心に数十名の学者や僧侶(そうりょ)が編集に従事した。諸家から提出させた家譜を資料として編集を進め、仮名本、真名(まな)本各186冊を完成した。日本最初の武家系図の集大成であり、また江戸幕府の大規模な編集事業の最初の成果である。その献上本は国立公文書館と日光東照宮に保存されている。
