Kanazawabou

Japanese: 金沢坊 - かなざわぼう
Kanazawabou

...The first half of the republican government, which lasted for a century, was led by the "Three Kashu Temples" of Wakamatsu Honsen-ji Temple in Kahoku County, where Rennyo's son was stationed, Hasadani Shoko-ji Temple in Nomi County, and Yamada Kokyo-ji Temple in Enuma County. However, after the failure of the "Eisho Ikki" in 1506 (Eisho 3), which aimed to overthrow the shugo authority in the neighboring provinces of Echizen, Noto, and Etchu, the conflict between the "Three Kashu Temples" and the Echizen-affiliated Fujishima Chosho-ji Temple, Wada Honkaku-ji Temple, and the Hongan-ji Temple vassals intensified, and with the "Kyoroku Disturbance" in 1531 (Kyoroku 4), the initiative shifted to the Hongan-ji Temple vassals, Chosho-ji Temple, and Honkaku-ji Temple. In 1546 (Tenbun 15), Kanazawa-bo was built in Kanazawa, Ishikawa County, and the distribution system of the Kaga province was concentrated in the temple town of Kanazawa. The Kaga Ikko Ikki, which had long resisted armed interference from the Nagao (Uesugi) clan of Echigo and the Asakura clan of Echizen, temporarily took Echizen under their control in 1574 (Tensho 2), the year after Oda Nobunaga defeated Asakura Yoshikage, but they were subjected to fierce pincer attacks by Uesugi Kenshin and Oda Nobunaga, which deepened internal divisions, and in 1575 Oda Nobunaga occupied Southern Kaga, and in 1580 Oda Nobunaga occupied Northern Kaga with Kanazawabo at its core. In 1582, the Yamanouchi (Tedoriya) Ikki, which had resisted to the end, was massacred, bringing to an end the history of self-governance that had been called the "country held by the peasants."
