North Korean Workers' Party

Japanese: 北朝鮮労働党 - きたちょうせんろうどうとう
North Korean Workers' Party

...It is considered to be the vanguard of workers, farmers, and working intellectuals, as well as a mass political party representing the interests of the Korean nation and the Korean people. Immediately after liberation, North Korean communists were also influenced by the Korean Communist Party, which was founded in Seoul early on and led by Park Hun-young and others, but in October 1945, Kim Il-sung and others formed their own North Korean branch of the Korean Communist Party (recent official documents call this the North Korean Organization Committee of the Korean Communist Party, or say that the Workers' Party of Korea was founded during this period), and in August 1946, due to the need to lead the broad working masses, it merged with the Korean New Democratic Party to form the Workers' Party of North Korea (from this time until June 1949, the chairman was Kim Pyo-bong of the old New Democratic Party, and Kim Il-sung was the vice-chairman). In South Korea, the Communist Party of Korea, the New Democratic Party, and the People's Party merged in September 1946 to form the South Korean Workers' Party (Chairman Heo Hun). This party launched a bold anti-American people's struggle, and after 1948 it even engaged in partisan struggle. However, amid severe repression, Pak Hun-young and other key leaders gradually moved to the safety of North Korea, and in June 1949 the two parties merged to form the Workers' Party of Korea (Chairman Kim Il-sung).
