A French film from 1945. It was released in Japan in 1952 (Showa 27). It is a masterpiece by director Marcel Carné. Stage actor Jean-Louis Barrault came up with the idea of ​​making a film about 19th century mime Baptiste Debureau, and the film revolves around this subject, featuring real people from that time, such as the homicidal literary maniac Lasnel, the famous stage actor Frédéric Lemaitre, and also involving fictional characters such as the showgirl Garance, the Count de Monray, and Nathalie, who would become Baptiste's wife. The screenplay was written by Jacques Prévert, and it is a three-hour and fifteen-minute epic ensemble drama set in the entertainment districts of 19th century Paris, featuring colorful characters in the first part, "Boulevard de la Crime," and the second part, "The White Man." Filming began in southern France during World War II, and overcoming many difficulties such as Nazi interference, changes in film studios, and replacement of actors, it was finally completed after the war, and was a huge hit as an unprecedented masterpiece at the time. Barrault's pantomime is a masterpiece, but this masterpiece is also adorned by a diverse cast of actors including Pierre Brasseur, Arletty and Maria Casares.

フランス映画。1945年作品。日本公開は52年(昭和27)。マルセル・カルネ監督の代表作。舞台俳優ジャン・ルイ・バローの発案で19世紀のパントマイム役者バチスト・ドビュローの映画を計画、これを中心に、殺人狂の文学者ラスネル、舞台の名優フレデリック・ルメートルなど当時の実在人物を登場させ、さらに見世物女芸人ガランスやモンレー伯爵、バチストの妻となるナタリーなど架空の人物を絡ませている。脚本はジャック・プレベールで、19世紀パリの盛り場を舞台に性格の鮮やかな人物を登場させ、第一部「犯罪大通り」、第二部「白い男」の2部よりなる3時間15分の壮大な群像ドラマ。撮影は第二次世界大戦中に南フランスで開始され、ナチスの干渉、撮影所の変更、俳優の交代など多くの困難を克服し、戦後ようやく完成、当時空前の大作として大きな反響をよんだ。バローのパントマイムも名演技だが、ピエール・ブラッスール、アルレッティ、マリア・カザレスら多彩な演技陣がこの大作を飾った。
