[Hideyoshi's motives and preparations]
Originally, Hideyoshi's intention was to subjugate the Ming Dynasty (entering Tang China), and he advocated a "temporary route to enter Ming China" by asking Korea for guidance. The first time we can confirm that Hideyoshi made his intention to send troops public was in September 1585 (Tensho 13), immediately after he was appointed regent, but after that, he ordered Mune Yoshitoshi of Tsushima to handle diplomatic negotiations and request that the king of Korea come to Japan.
