Kakkoyashikigami - Each household god

...The diversity of names for yashikigami indicates the advancement of kanjo-gami, and is presumably indicative of the activities of those who transmit the faith, such as ascetics and shrine maidens. If yashikigami are categorized based on the range of people who worship them, they can be divided into three types: (1) those worshipped in almost every household (individual household gods), (2) those worshipped only in specific old families or in the main family (main family household gods), and (3) those worshipped by a group of members of the same family as the household god belonging to the main family (family household gods). It is difficult to imagine that these three types coexisted from the beginning....
