Kakkosou - Looks cool

A perennial plant of the Primulaceae family (APG classification: Primulaceae). The entire plant is densely covered with white hairs, and the leaves are shallowly palmately cut at the base. In spring, it produces flower stalks about 15 cm long, which produce scattered crimson-purple flowers. A type of mountain primrose, it is a beautiful mountain plant found in the Kanto and Chubu regions, as well as Shikoku, and is favored by mountain plant enthusiasts.

It is rarely seen in northern Kanto, such as Gunma Prefecture. It is said to have been discovered in the Chubu region, but has never been found growing wild. The one in Shikoku is a hairy variety called Shikoku kakkosou. The number of wild ones is decreasing.

サクラソウ科（APG分類：サクラソウ科）の多年草。全株に白い毛が密生し、浅く掌状に切れた葉を根生し、春に15センチメートルほどの花茎を出し、紅紫色の花を散形状につける。山地生のサクラソウの一種で、関東地方と中部地方、四国に産する美しい山草として、山草愛好家が好んで栽培する。

　群馬県など関東北部にまれにみられる。中部地方で発見されたといわれるが、自生はみつかっていない。四国のものは毛が多い変種でシコクカッコソウとよばれる。野生のものは数を減らしている。
