A perennial plant of the Primulaceae family (APG classification: Primulaceae). The entire plant is densely covered with white hairs, and the leaves are shallowly palmately cut at the base. In spring, it produces flower stalks about 15 cm long, which produce scattered crimson-purple flowers. A type of mountain primrose, it is a beautiful mountain plant found in the Kanto and Chubu regions, as well as Shikoku, and is favored by mountain plant enthusiasts. [Tsuneo Torii March 22, 2021] It is rarely seen in northern Kanto, such as Gunma Prefecture. It is said to have been discovered in the Chubu region, but has never been found growing wild. The one in Shikoku is a hairy variety called Shikoku kakkosou. The number of wild ones is decreasing.
