Fujiyori Omori - From Omori Fuji

Japanese:
Fujiyori Omori - From Omori Fuji
Year of death: Bunki 3.11.2? (1503.11.20)
Year of birth: Year of birth unknown. A military commander in the Muromachi and Sengoku periods. The last lord of Odawara Castle of the Omori clan. Shikibu Shoyu, Shinano no Kami. The second son of Ujiyori, who is famous for admonishing his lord, Ogigayatsu Uesugi Sadamasa, for the assassination of Ota Dokan. When his father Ujiyori died in August 1494, his older brother Saneyori had already died, so he inherited the family headship and became lord of Odawara Castle, but in September of the following year, the castle was taken by Hojo Soun. Regarding this incident, the Soshu Heiranki and other sources report that Soun deliberately approached Fujiyori and eventually launched a surprise attack on him under the pretext of deer hunting, but this is probably not true. The change in the lord of Odawara Castle is thought to have been largely related to the changes in the situation surrounding the Omori clan, such as the death of Sadamasa, when Koga kubō Ashikaga Shigeuji sided with Yamanouchi Uesugi Akisada. It is also commonly said that Fujiyori, whose castle was taken, fled to Sanada Castle (Hiratsuka City), but this was a stronghold of the Ueda clan, and this also seems unlikely to be true. In July of the same year, Akisada invaded the western part of Sagami, attacking the bases of Soun and the Ogigayatsu Uesugi clan, but according to a letter from Akisada (owned by Utsue) conveying the situation to Nagao Yoshikage, the deputy governor of Echigo, Fujiyori's residence was located further west than Sanada Castle. It is said that Fujiyori then fled to Kai, or that he sought refuge with the Miura clan and fled to Arai Castle, where he died. There is also a theory that he died in 1498 (Meiō 7). Could it be that he was a military commander who was unable to adapt to changing circumstances and destroyed his clan? <References> "Odawara City Historical Materials," History Edition
