Japanese: 学校司書 - がっこうししょ（英語表記）school librarian

This refers to staff who work exclusively in school libraries to improve the management of school libraries and promote the use of school libraries by children, students, and teachers. The 2014 amendment to the School Library Law gave the school librarian a legal status for the first time, and schools are required to make an effort to assign librarians (Article 6). National and local governments are also required to make an effort to provide training. The School Library Guidelines established by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2016 state that it is desirable for school librarians to engage in specialized and technical duties, as well as to endeavor to promote educational activities such as lessons that utilize the school library together with librarian teachers and teachers. The Model Curriculum for School Librarians in the guidelines also shows the subjects that need to be studied at universities, etc., in order to acquire the knowledge and skills required of school librarians.
