An engine that uses compressed air as the working fluid. Also known as an air motor. It uses the pressure of compressed air stored in an air tank to generate power to drive various machines. It is divided into positive displacement and turbo types, the former of which includes reciprocating types with cylinders and pistons, and rotary types with movable blades. Compared to electric motors and internal combustion engines, it is lighter and smaller, and is non-flammable, so it is often used in places where other prime movers cannot be used for safety reasons, such as underground mines and chemical plants where there are explosive gases. → Related items Air machines Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
