Born June 6, 1885. Studied Western painting at the Hakuba-kai Western Painting Institute and other institutions. After moving to the United States, he switched to Japanese painting and joined the Musei-kai group with Hirafuku Hyakusui and others. In 1916, his work "The Origin of the Reisen" won the Chogyu Prize at the Inten Exhibition. In 1929, he founded and led the Seiryu-sha Society, advocating venue art. He produced a number of grandiose and unrestrained masterpieces. In 1951, he was awarded the Order of Culture. He passed away on April 10, 1966, aged 80. He was from Wakayama Prefecture.
