…The first iron coin, the Kengen Chobo, is said to have been minted in 996, and subsequently iron and copper coins such as the Samhan Tongbo, the Sanhan Chobo, the Haedong Tongbo, the Haedong Chobo, the Sankoku Tongbo, and the Sankoku Chobo were issued one after another. Silver coins called ginbei (silver kettle) or katsukou (silver kettle) were also minted. The Yi Dynasty government issued paper money in 1401, early in the country's history, and made it legal tender. In 1423, they minted copper coins called Chosun Tongbo, and in 1464 they minted iron senbei (iron arrow coins) in an attempt to popularize them. …
