[Born] 12th year of Shunzhi (1655) [Died] Kangxi 24 (1685) A Chinese literati in the early Qing Dynasty. Born in Liaoyang. Style name: Rong Ruo. A descendant of the Manchu Zhenghuangqi family, he was a member of the royal family of the Qing Dynasty. In the 15th year of the Kangxi era (1676), he passed the Jinshi examination. He was promoted to the first rank of guard and served as a close aide to Emperor Kangxi, but died of illness at an early age. He enjoyed learning and wrote works such as "The Chinshi Jishu Suifai (A Compendium of the Chen Family's Writings on Rites)." He is also credited with editing "The Tongzhitang Jingjie (Classical Writings of the Classical Writings of the Song and Yuan Dynasties)," a collection of theories by Confucian scholars from the Song and Yuan dynasties, but in fact it was his teacher, Xu Qianxue, who wrote it. He was well known as a poet, and together with Zhu Yizun and Chen Weisong, he pioneered the revival of ci in the early Qing Dynasty. He was an expert in short stories, with the Five Dynasties and Northern Song as his roots, and his ci exudes a melancholy that has been described as extremely gentle in its fresh expressions that are not bound by rules or classics. His works include the poetry collection "Tsūshidōshū" (20 volumes), the poetry collection "Dinsui Kotobasho" (2 volumes), and "Naranshi" (5 volumes).
