Spectrum of the Wind

...In mid-latitudes, there is a tendency for winds to be strong in the lower layers during the day and weak at night, and for winds to be strong at night and weak during the day in the upper layers, with the boundary between these two being around 100 m (Figure 7).

If we consider wind to be made up of vortices of various sizes, we can understand the nature of wind speed fluctuations by analyzing its spectrum. Figure 8 shows the spectrum of wind speed fluctuations analyzed by Van der Hoven.
