A deciduous tall tree of the legume family. Native to China. The bark is gray. The leaves are alternate and odd-pinnately compound, with 4-5 pairs of leaflets with white undersides. In July-August, large compound racemes grow at the ends of green twigs, and produce pale yellow, butterfly-shaped flowers about 1.5 cm long. The legumes are fleshy, bead-like, constricted, and drooping, with sticky insides. The wood is used for furniture and utensils, and the tree is used as a roadside tree or garden tree.
