… In England, I. Jones introduced the architectural ideas of Palladio in the late 16th century, becoming a pioneer of Italian architecture, and in his later years he approached Baroque. However, it was C. Wren, who designed St. Paul's Cathedral in London (1675-1710), who established a unique English Baroque style by learning from the works of Italian and French masters. After him, N. Hawksmoor and J. Bambrah became the leaders of English Baroque, and the latter's Castle Howard (1700-21) and Blenheim Palace (1705-25) in particular show the height of English Baroque. In the Germanic cultural sphere, such as Germany and Austria, there is a tendency to seek dynamic expression within the nationalistic orientation, and in contrast to England, they have already established their own Baroque world with the introduction of Italian architectural ideas in the late 16th century. …

…　イギリスにおいては，I.ジョーンズが，16世紀後半のイタリアのパラディオの建築理念を導入して，建築のイタリア化の先駆となり，晩年，バロックに接近したが，イタリアやフランスの巨匠たちの作品に学んでイギリス･バロック独自の様式を確立したのは，ロンドンのセント･ポール大聖堂(1675‐1710)を設計したC.レンである。彼のあと，N.ホークスムアやJ.バンブラーがイギリスのバロックの担い手となったが，とくに後者のカースル･ハワード(1700‐21)やブレニム宮殿(1705‐25)は，イギリス･バロックの到達した地点を示すものである。　ドイツ，オーストリアなどのゲルマン文化圏においては，民族的な志向のうちに動感にあふれる表現を求めるところがあり，イギリスとは対照的に，16世紀後半のイタリア建築の理念の導入において，すでに独自のバロック的な世界を樹立している。…
