Kawaguchi [town] - Kawaguchi
A former town in Kita-Uonuma District, central Niigata Prefecture. The main settlement is located at the confluence of the Shinano River and its tributary, the Uono River, and is a key transportation hub where the Joetsu Line and the Iiyama Line junction, and where the Kan-Etsu Expressway and National Route 17 pass through. The town mainly produces rice, but also produces field crops, livestock, and horticulture. Enoki mushrooms are a local specialty. Sweetfish fishing in the Uono River is also famous, and there is a salmon hatchery. Incorporated into Nagaoka City in March 2010. 50.03 km2 . 5,233 people (2005).
