Nāṣir al-Dawla (English spelling)

...an Islamic dynasty established in northern Mesopotamia (905-991) and northern Syria (945-1004) by the Arab Taghlib tribe of Hamdanid. It began with Abd Allah (ruled 905-929) appointed governor of Mosul, and his son Nasir al-Dawla (ruled 929-969) became the Grand Amir (ruled 942-943) and intervened in the Abbasid political world. In 979, it was conquered by the Buyid dynasty, and thereafter came under their protection until it was divided and destroyed by the Uqayrid and Marwanid dynasties in 991. On the other hand, Nasir al-Dawla's younger brother, Sayf al-Dawla (reigned 944-967), established the Hamdanid dynasty in Syria from Aleppo, which was a powerful rival to the Byzantine Empire and protected writers and scholars.
