It began with Abd Allah (ruled 905-929) appointed governor of Mosul, and his son Nasir al-Dawla (ruled 929-969) became the Grand Amir (ruled 942-943) and intervened in the Abbasid political world. In 979, it was conquered by the Buyid dynasty, and thereafter came under their protection until it was divided and destroyed by the Uqayrid and Marwanid dynasties in 991.
