Kasama ware
A regional brand of Ibaraki Prefecture in the Kanto region.
Ceramic teapots, plates, sake bottles, tea bowls, teacups, etc., produced in Kasama City, Ibaraki Prefecture and the surrounding areas using traditional techniques and methods originating from the Kasama region of Ibaraki Prefecture. It is said to have started during the An'ei period (1772-1781) of the Edo period, when artisans in Kasama City fired in kilns under the guidance of Shigaraki ware potters. Kasama clay, which is reddish-brown and rich in iron, has excellent plasticity, so molding techniques using a potter's wheel were developed. Kasama ware, which is fired to a dark red surface, has a deep flavor that includes the warmth, strength, and astringency of a simple handmade product. Currently, in addition to traditional beauty, Kasama ware incorporates modern designs and colors to produce a wide range of household items that are firmly rooted in people's lives. Local crafts of Ibaraki Prefecture. In October 1992, it was designated as a national traditional craft by the Minister of International Trade and Industry (currently the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry). It was registered as a regional collective trademark with the Japan Patent Office in October 2007. The trademark registration number is No. 5082726. The owner of the regional collective trademark is the Kasama Pottery Cooperative.
