Anjunan

Japanese: 安順菴 - あんじゅんあん
Anjunan

...Korean Silla scholar and historian. His pen name was Baeksun, and his pen name was either Shun'an or Yoonheon. He was from Guangzhou. He refused to study for the imperial examinations, and became a disciple of Seongho Yiyi because of his academic and virtuous character. He was well versed in classical and historical studies. After Yiyi's death, many of the young Seongho school members became devoted to Catholicism (Christianity), but he was worried that this would become an excuse for opponents to attack them, so in 1785 he wrote "Tianhakko" (Thoughts on Heavenly Learning) and "Tianhak Mondo" (Questions on Heavenly Learning) (Tianhak is Catholicism) to warn them. This was ineffective, and in 1801, after his death, the Shinyu Persecution took place. He was invited by the king to hold a number of government posts, but in his later years he devoted himself to writing and reading, and compiled the collection of writings by his teacher, Yi Yu, titled Seonghohyoseoluisen (Anthology of the Writings of Seonghohyoseoluisen), as well as the 20-volume chronological history book, Dongshi Gangmu (Eastern History Gangmu), and other works, including the Guide to Lessons in Education.
