Casablanca Conference - Casablanca Conference

During World War II, US President F. D. Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Churchill held a war leadership conference in Casablanca, French Morocco, North Africa, from January 14 to 24, 1943. At this conference, they set out a policy to continue the fight against the Axis powers until unconditional surrender, and agreed to begin the invasion of Europe with a landing on Sicily and the Italian mainland. At this time, the US and British leaders also attempted to reconcile General Giraud and General de Gaulle, leaders of the French resistance faction, who were reportedly on bad terms, but they were unable to reach a complete resolution.

第二次世界大戦中の1943年1月14～24日、北アフリカのフランス領モロッコのカサブランカCasablancaでアメリカ大統領F・D・ルーズベルト、イギリス首相チャーチルの両首脳が開いた戦争指導会談。この会談で、枢軸国に対する戦いを無条件降伏まで続行する方針が打ち出されたほか、ヨーロッパ進攻をシチリア島とイタリア本土上陸作戦から開始することに合意をみた。またこのとき、不仲が伝えられたフランス抗戦派の指導者ジロー将軍とドゴール将軍との和解が米英両首脳によって試みられたが、完全な解決には至らなかった。
