…However, the oldest surviving hall, Prince Shotoku Hall, was built as the Hokke-do Hall in 1112 (Ten'ei 3), and the prevailing theory is that the temple was not founded before the mid-Heian period. The Kako Manor in which the temple is located was the territory of Shoren-in Temple in Kyoto, and since the head priest of Shoren-in Temple was often the head priest of Shitenno-ji Temple, it seems that the legend of Prince Shotoku was added to strengthen the relationship with Shitenno-ji Temple, and it seems that it was during the Kamakura period when the Hokke-do Hall was remodeled into the Prince Shotoku Hall. The oldest surviving document records of the temple are a building tablet from 1263 (Kōchō 3) and a donation letter from 1268 (Bun'ei 5), but it is certain that the temple was a fairly large and grand temple in the late Heian period, and since the Kamakura period, it has attracted the reverence of the general public for its faith in Prince Shotoku and Tendai-style nembutsu. …

…しかし,現存最古の堂である太子堂は,1112年(天永3)に法華堂として建立されており,当寺の創建は平安中期をさかのぼらないとする説が有力である。寺のある賀古荘は京都青蓮院領で,青蓮院門主が四天王寺別当になることが多かったことから四天王寺との関係を強めて太子伝説が付会されたものらしく,その時期は法華堂が太子堂に改造される鎌倉時代のことらしい。当寺現存の文書記録は1263年(弘長3)の棟札,1268年(文永5)の寄進状を最古とするが,平安後期にはかなり壮大な大寺院であったことは確実で,鎌倉時代以後太子信仰と天台系念仏によって衆庶の崇仰を集めた。…
