Also known as Ringer's solution. Created by British physiologist S. Ringer (1835-1910), it is isotonic with blood, with adjusted electrolyte composition and pH. A salt solution. In the Japanese Pharmacopoeia, it is made up of 8.6g of sodium chloride, 0.3g of potassium chloride, 0.33g of calcium chloride, and distilled water for injection to make a total volume of 1000ml. It is used to keep organs removed from animals alive and healthy for as long as possible.
