A type of decorative pattern. A floral rope made of stylized flowers, fruits, leaves, and ribbons is left hanging in the middle and both ends are tied together. It is also called hanging flower decoration. The name comes from the decorations used for "festivals" (festa), in which floral ropes and leaves are tied together and hung from above. It is also seen in late Greek works, but was mainly used during the Roman period. It is also commonly seen in the Italian Renaissance and Baroque periods, and is often used as a border pattern for architecture, furniture, dyed and woven goods, ceramics, metalwork, etc. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
