...Both Hippocrates and Plato followed this idea of the cause of hysteria. On the other hand, the ancient Chinese medical book, "Jingui Yaolue," which is said to have been written by Zhang Zhongjing (late 2nd century to early 3rd century?), also considered hysteria to be a gynecological disease and called it "visceral mania." Wu Shuzo, the founder of modern psychiatry in Japan, adopted this term when he translated hysteria as "visceral mania."
