Torahiko Enomoto

Playwright. Born in Wakayama Prefecture. After working as an elementary school teacher and a newspaper reporter, he joined the Kabuki Theatre in 1890 (Meiji 23) and trained as a playwright under Fukuchi Ochi. After Ochi's death in 1906, he became the lead playwright at the theatre. He showed talent in adaptation and rewriting, and his representative works include "Meiko Kakiemon," "Nanto Enjo," and "Ataka Pass." He also wrote novels.

劇作家。和歌山県出身。小学校教員、新聞記者を経たのち、1890年（明治23）歌舞伎(かぶき)座に入り、福地桜痴(おうち)のもとで作者修業、桜痴の死（1906）後、同座の立作者となった。翻案、書き換えに才能をみせ、代表作に『名工柿右衛門(めいこうかきえもん)』『南都炎上』『安宅関(あたかのせき)』など。小説もある。
