Playwright. Born in Wakayama Prefecture. After working as an elementary school teacher and a newspaper reporter, he joined the Kabuki Theatre in 1890 (Meiji 23) and trained as a playwright under Fukuchi Ochi. After Ochi's death in 1906, he became the lead playwright at the theatre. He showed talent in adaptation and rewriting, and his representative works include "Meiko Kakiemon," "Nanto Enjo," and "Ataka Pass." He also wrote novels.
