...The relationship between large and small families is most clearly expressed in the aspect of ancestor worship services, which are conducted according to Confucian customs. There are two types of ancestor worship services: family and grave services, which are further divided into memorial services (kijesa) and tea rites (ch'arye). Memorial services are held on the anniversary of the death of each ancestor within the fourth generation, and tea rites are held on New Year's Day or Chuseok (the 15th day of the eighth lunar month) for all ancestors who are the subject of memorial services.
