"Collection of Proverbs"

His subsequent work can be seen as a tireless effort to realize this claim. His works such as "Aphorisms" (enlarged edition, 1508), which provided linguistic and historical commentaries on ancient wise sayings, and "Terminology" (1512), which discussed Latin rhetoric, were attempts to convey an accurate picture of ancient times. On the other hand, his "Corrected Greek New Testament" (1516), which collated various manuscripts and typeset the Greek original for the first time, with detailed annotations and Latin translations, and his work on the first typeset of the works of Jerome and other Church Fathers (1516-28) were attempts to free true Christianity from "human fabrications and artificial institutions." Moreover, despite the expected fierce criticism from conservative Catholics and attacks from Lutherans for his refusal to approve the schism of the church, he continued to write cautionary tales to a wider audience as a fighting humanist who aimed to realize a world united under the gospel spirit of love and peace.
