〘noun〙 (From the practice of women holding the body of their kimono with a shigoki obi when walking) In the Edo period, this referred to a waist sash. It became popular in Kamigata around the Enpo era (1673-81 ). Hikishigoki obi. Shigoki. Kae. *Haiku poem, Tenma Senku (1676), volume 7, "A light wind blows through the air (Muneyoshi) A sash of clouds swaying in the dew (Seiki)" [Additional note] According to "Thoughts on the Customs and Manners of Early Modern Women," obis were tied at the back around the Enpo era, but moved to being tied in front in the third and fourth years of the Jokyo era (1686-87 ), and then became established as being tied at the side around the 19th year of the Kyoho era (1734 ).

〘名〙 (女性が歩行の際に着物の身ごろをしごき帯でかかえたところから) 江戸時代、腰帯をいう。上方で延宝(一六七三‐八一)頃より流行したもの。引きしごき帯。しごき。かかえ。※俳諧・天満千句(1676)七「ますほの薄風ななりふり〈宗恭〉 露しぐれはれ行雲のかかへ帯〈西鬼〉」[補注]「近世女風俗考」によると、延宝頃は後ろに結んでいたのが、貞享三、四年(一六八六‐八七)より前結びに移り、さらに享保一九年(一七三四)頃には横結びに定着したという。
