Lower bound

Japanese: 下界 - げかい（英語表記）lower bound

In general, if there is a set A of real numbers, and there is a number a that is smaller than any element belonging to A , then a is said to be the lower bound of set A , and we say that " A is lower-bounded." In terms of sequences, if there exists a real number a such that a ≦ x _n for every term x _n in the sequence x ₁ , x ₂ , ..., x _n , ..., then a is the lower bound of this sequence, and the sequence is lower-bounded. Also, if there is a subset A of a poset and an element a , and a ≦ x for all x ∈ A , then a is said to be a lower bound of A , and A is said to be lower-bounded. When the lower bound a is specifically an element of A , a is called the smallest element. It can also be read as "kakai."
