Structural efficiency

Japanese: 構造効率 - こうぞうこうりつ（英語表記）structural efficiency

A type of index that expresses rocket performance. In a single-stage rocket _, if its total mass mO is expressed as the sum of the amount _of payload mL , the mass of propellant mP , _and the structural mass mS (the mass of the rocket engine, tank, head and body structures, tail , etc., the so-called basic rocket structure), then β, generally defined as β = mS _/ ( mS + mP ) _, is called the structural efficiency. In general, the smaller this value _, the better the rocket's performance. In a multi-stage rocket, it is defined for each stage, but _in this case the upper stage is considered to be the payload.

ロケットの性能を表す指標の一種。1段式ロケットにおいてその全質量m_Oが搭載物質量m_L，推進剤質量m_P，構造質量(ロケットエンジン，タンク，頭部や胴部構造，尾翼などいわゆるロケットの基本的な構造の質量)m_Sの和で表されるとしたとき，一般にβ＝m_S/(m_S＋m_P)で定義されるβを構造効率という。一般にこの値が小さいほどロケットの性能はよいといえる。多段式ロケットでは各段ごとに定義されるが，この場合上段は搭載物とみなされる。
